Phillies-Giants Deal: Andrews for Whitaker

According to BNN there were mixed emotions by the players involved in the trade between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants. As part of the deal, the Phillies swapped 18-year old minor league SS Fred Andrews and 22-year old minor league LHP Fred Thomason to the Giants getting 27-year old minor league RF Steve Whitaker in return. The players indicated it was good to get a fresh new start in another city, but it was difficult to leave your friends on the old team.


Whitaker is hitting .234 lifetime with 171 hits, 19 doubles, 6 triples, 24 home runs, and 81 RBIs to date. He has scored 70 runs, walked 52 times and has a .288 OBP.
