Season-Ending Injury for Sawyer
Obviously disappointed, Rick Sawyer confirmed today that his season is officially over. The Reno starting pitcher offered mostly monosyllabic responses to reporters. "Nope," he said, when asked if he might possibly return this year. The 22-year-old Sawyer suffered a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament on 07/05/1970 and has been out of action since.

Birmingham Shut Out by Sawyer
Rick Sawyer had the <Birmingham A's:team#50> dancing to his tune during a sparkling 6-0 shutout performance for the Savannah Guardians. He gave up 7 hits, issued 3 walks and had 7 strikeouts.
Birmingham hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
"When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point," opposing manager <Manny Salazar:coach#324> said. "We just never figured him out."
To date this season, Sawyer has compiled a 6-4 record with a 2.82 ERA in 13 starts.
