Bert Blyleven picked up the AL Rookie of the Month trophy today for April.

The 19-year-old pitcher for Minnesota compiled a solid 2.83 ERA over 35 innings and 5 starts. He tallied 2 wins and no losses and 23 strikeouts as he held batters to a .286 batting average.

Blyleven Puts Screws to Kansas City

Bert Blyleven was dynamite at Metropolitan Stadium, blowing away the Kansas City Royals in a shutout victory. The Minnesota Twins starter had everything working as he held the Royals to 5 hits in the 1-0 win.

"He was pure nasty out there today," said Kansas City skipper <Charlie Metro:coach#11>. "I don't think any team in the league would've had a chance against what he was bringing."

Blyleven finished the game with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.
