Ashford Raps Coos Bay-North Bend for 5 Hits

Bend left fielder Sam Ashford went down swinging at North Bend Municipal Park, knocking out 5 hits even as his Rainbows fell, 15-3.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Ashford said after his 5-for-5 performance against the <Coos Bay-North Bend A's:team#143>. "No offense meant to Coos Bay-North Bend, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the left fielder's improvements, saying Ashford spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Ashford agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
