Expos Blank Cardinals, Russell Winner

The St. Petersburg Cardinals were almost helpless in their 1-0 loss to the West Palm Beach Expos and hurler Pat Russell. Russell kept the Cardinals confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Russell," St. Petersburg manager <Jamie Ball:coach#507> said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 19-year-old right-hander had 3 walks and 8 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Russell said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

This season, Russell has worked 41 innings with 36 strikeouts en route to a 4-1 record and a 1.32 ERA.
