California, Montreal Trade Made

The California Angels and Montreal Expos have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. California will part with 23-year old CF Jarvis Tatum and 23-year old minor league RHP Terry Thompson, while the Expos have dealt 29-year old minor league 3B Coco Laboy.

"This one took a while to figure out," said California general manager <Tim Devine:coach#61>. "We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I'm glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs."

So far this year, Tatum has no home runs and a .143 batting average.

Laboy has batted .258 for his career with 145 hits, 29 doubles, 1 triple, 18 home runs, and 83 RBIs.

Tatum Belts 3 HRs

Hawaii center fielder Jarvis Tatum led the Islanders to a triumph, 8-4, over the Salt Lake City Bees, crushing three home runs.

"He's scary good when he's swinging the bat like that," said Hawaii skipper Mike Giller.

Indeed, Tatum put up some "scary good" numbers: three homers, 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 3 runs and 6 RBIs.

"I'm just thinkin' about winning ballgames," Tatum said. "When you think about home runs, you very seldom get 'em."

Jarvis Tatum hit a two-run home run off Al Santorini in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Al Santorini in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Ron Willis in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.

In 13 games this season, Tatum is batting .450 with 18 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 14 runs and driven in 11.
