Denver's Nelson Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits
A jubilant Dave Nelson joined the postgame press conference at Oiler Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Tulsa Oilers pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Denver Bears second baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 12-2 Bears win.
"He made it look easy," said <Mike Clauss:coach#306>, manager of the Oilers. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Dave Nelson struck out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
So far this season, Nelson has recorded a .391 batting average with 18 hits, 1 home run, 12 RBIs, 6 runs scored and a .429 OBP.
