Watertown Playoff Hopes Officially Zero
It's the better-luck-next-time point of the season for the Watertown Expos. The club was officially eliminated from playoff contention today, and will turn their attention to next year's campaign.
"You know, the average player doesn't get that many seasons, so every time you're eliminated, it hurts," said Expos catcher Freddie Velazquez.

Dukes End Velazquez Streak
Lady Luck was not on the side of Freddie Velazquez or his teammates at Alex Duffy Stadium.
Everything went the way of the Duluth-Superior Dukes, who not only came away with the 9-1 victory over Watertown, but also held Velazquez hitless in 1 at-bat to put an end to his 28-game hitting streak.
"It was a good run," Velazquez said afterward. "It would be much easier to take right now if we had won."
This year, Velazquez has hit at a .408 clip with 23 RBIs, no home runs and 21 runs scored.
Velazquez Ups Hit Streak to 25 Consecutive Games
Freddie Velazquez ran his hitting streak to 25 straight games at Pheasant Park, when he collected 1 hit in 5 at-bats. The feat came, however, as the Watertown Expos dropped the game, 7-6, to the Aberdeen Pheasants.
"Hey, the streak is great -- I hope it never ends," Velazquez said later. "But I'm not happy to lose the game."
Freddie Velazquez flied out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.
Looking at his present stats, Velazquez has compiled a .407 batting average in 40 games with a .500 on-base percentage, while hitting no home runs and driving in 22 runs.
